In my paintings, the intent is to precondition the viewer and take him in a specified
direction. I hand the viewer a recognizable object and then take it away; a visual battle
of knowing something is there but not being able to completely identify it. Logically the
object should be there but visually it is obscured.

The use of the star shape is repeated in the work creating a common dominator. I use
the lines of the shape to both camouflage and accentuate it which forms one layer of the
painting. Utilizing texture and textured materials to form physical layers veils the objects
employing trust by the viewer that the object is still there. The repetition of a shape or
object in essence minimizes the importance of the particular shape or object. This
allows the viewer to explore other facets of the painting.
